Summer Slide, What's the Big Deal?

The end of the school year is fast approaching and summer will be here before you know it! Now what? Later bedtimes, endless hours of playing outside, and of course ice cream! As students bask in their much deserved summer vacation, learning loss creeps in. Beginning as early as first grade, students loose, on average, about 2 months worth of core content knowledge over the summer. Teachers spend approximately 6 weeks reviewing old content, 6 weeks! If you've ever attended parent teacher conferences and have seen the data you know how scary this can be. Stop accepting test scores that are lower in the fall than they were the previous spring. Maintaining academic growth can be fun and easy. With only a couple hours a week students have the opportunity to continue learning while building the academic confidence they deserve as they head back to school in August.
